According to the Qom University of Medical Sciences Public Relations, Dr. Fatimah El-Awa and Dr. Christoph Hamelmann, WHO representatives, stated in a meeting with the Dean of the University, Dr. Abolfazl Iranikhah, that about 8 million people die from tobacco worldwide each year, with one million of them being exposed to tobacco smoke alone and not smoking.

They said: Mecca and Medina, Qom and Mashhad are four religious cities worldwide that the World Health Organization is trying to identify as religious cities without tobacco, which has so far been implemented in Mecca and Medina.
